Innocence of a Child

The winds doth blow, sweeping all around
Yet in her cradle my dear one is found.

Sleep my young child, let thine eyes close with grace
As a slumbering peace rests gently on thy face.
Far let it be the cares of this life
From your pure state of mind and your heart free of strife.

Sleep, yes sleep, my beauty so young
As the melodies of innocence are quietly sung.
This purity of childhood, 'tis yours today
Upon your dear life let this innocence stay.

Many there be which seek to destroy
The young flower you are; your Father's greatest joy.
Careful you must be, once your sleepiness departs
Guarded you must become, of the depths in your heart.

Soon it will come when you will be grown
And the veil taken off the world you had known.
Revealing new and adventuresome lands
For you to seek out with your mind and your hands.

But for now, my little one, full of purity divine
Let not these worries rest in the heart of thine.
Stay in thy sweetness and childhood bliss
Basking in the sunshine of Heaven's dear kiss.

Sleep, yes sleep, my dear precious girl
As fanciful dreams round thy locks doth twirl.
Rest in this time, and grasp onto your youth
Hold dear to your childhood faith and all truth.

Keep the innocence that upon you is bestowed
Curl your fingers round it tightly as you grace life's road.
For precious you are, and delicate you'll ever be
to Jesus, your Creator, and of course to me!

WOW, Elizabeth! I must say you are simply TOO talented ;). You sure have a gift with writing poetry. That is such a beautiful poem, and so, so precious! You really captured the sweetness of a little girl's innocence and purity.

And that pic was adorable too!

I LOVE that poem! It is perfect for the girly-girl daughter I have. :) I could completely relate to the warm sentiments, feelings and heart beat you have for children. Especially the innonence of girlish youth. And to think you're not even a real MOM yet?! Wow, you're a step ahead of a lot us!
